International activities of the House of Representatives

The National Assembly is actively involved in shaping and conducting foreign policy of Belarus, with the main goal of multipolarity and observance of national interests with the unconditional preservation of state sovereignty. 

Internationally, the Parliament acts through various forms of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with parliaments of foreign countries, including exchange visits, negotiations with foreign parliamentarians, politicians, diplomats, businesspeople, statesmen, participation in international parliamentary organizations, development of the legal framework of interparliamentary cooperation. 

The National Assembly has established bilateral relations with the parliaments of more than 60 countries and fruitful relations with the international parliamentary community. The National Assembly of the 5th convocation has 56 working groups on cooperation with parliaments of foreign countries and 2 interparliamentary commissions with the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. 

Interest in Belarus is constantly growing. The Belarusian parliament has been active in various international and interparliamentary structures. The National Assembly has created 13 permanent delegations in such organizations. The most important direction of international cooperation is participation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union, the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. As a full member of these international organizations, the Belarusian Parliament is actively involved in the development and review of the draft Union State budget, the model legislation of CIS IPA, EurAsEC IPA typical projects and the Fundamentals of the Legislation of the EurAsEC, and other legal acts. 

The Parliament of the Republic of Belarus has a full membership in prestigious interparliamentary organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the parliamentary structure of the Central European Initiative, the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy. 

The participation of the chairpersons of the chambers of the Belarusian parliament in the world conferences of speakers of parliaments is an effective tool for communicating the position of the Republic of Belarus on the most significant international issues and developing interparliamentary cooperation. 

By participating in the implementation of foreign policies of Belarus, the National Assembly carries out its international activities not only through parliamentary cooperation. 

The parliamentarians use every opportunity to assist in promoting economic, trade and investment interests of the Republic of Belarus abroad, establishing contacts in education, science and culture. To make sure this work is carried out in an effective and coordinated manner, they constantly interact with the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specific ministries and departments of the Republic of Belarus. 

International activities of the National Assembly clearly fit into the overall foreign policy strategy of the Belarusian state and allow defending the country’s interests abroad in a dignified manner.
