On 5 March 2020, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko met with the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko.

During the meeting the parties discussed a number of important issues concerning further development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation and, in particular, preparation for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Vladimir Andreichenko the Chairman of the House of Representatives stressed the importance of preserving and protecting the memory of heroism and acts of courage of our citizens andemphasized the inadmissibility of rewriting the history of the Great Victory. The Chairmanof the House of Representatives announced that on 9 April 2020 in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus the Parliamentary hearings will be held dedicated to this topic. Russian parliamentarians have been invited to participate in this event.


Special attention was also paid to the interaction of Belarusian and Russian parliamentarians within international parliamentary organizations.

Vladimir Andreichenko supported the draft declaration on parliamentary diplomacy initiated by the Russian side, for the 142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). “We support the goals and ideas that it contains,” said the Chairman of the House of Representatives.

Valentina Matviyenko expressed her support for the nomination of a belarusian Member of Parliament to the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.


During the meeting the close and constructive cooperation of the parliamentarians in the frameworks of the OSCE PA was noted. The necessity of further cooperation with Russian colleagues in the PACE was stressed.

Regarding the issues of the bilateral agenda, Valentina Matviyenko expressed her sincere respect to Belarus and its people.The Speaker of the Federation Council noted that the Russian-Belarusian relations are based on common history, age-long friendship and mutual respect. The parliamentarians stressed the serious role of the Forum of Regions for strengthening and developing interregional cooperation and improving living standards in both countries.


Noting the importance of integration processes, Vladimir Andreichenko drew attention to the need to resolve a number of trade and economic issues as soon as possible on the basis of mutual respect for the national interests of Belarus and Russia, which, in turn, should make the idea of the union construction more attractive.


The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the Council of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs and National Security Sergei Rachkov, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on National Security Oleg Belokonev,the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media Gennady Davydko, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus onHealth, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy Lyudmila Makarina˗Kibak, Chairperson of the Standing Commissionof the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Education, Culture and Science Igor Marzalyuk,  the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Housing Policy and Construction Viktor Nikolaikin, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on State Building, Local Government and Regulations Valentin Semenyako.
