On 27 February 2020, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko met in the House of Representatives with the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki, who lead a delegation of the representatives of UN Country Team in the Republic of Belarus (UNDP, World Health Organization, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees).

The Chairman of the House of Representatives noted that the meeting is taking place on the threshold of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN). In this regard, Vladimir Andreichenko invited the representatives of the UN Country Team in Belarus to join a round table format event on the topic: "The UN in the XXI century," which is scheduled for June of this year in the House of Representatives.

Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki confirmed that a great number of events are planned for this anniversary year. One of the activity promoted now is a dialogue with the youth concerning the issue: what the world should be today and what role the UN should play in it.

During the meeting the parties exchanged their views on the status and prospects of parliamentary and UN interaction in the field of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

 Vladimir Andreichenko thanked the representatives of the UN Country Team in Belarus for the positive contribution of the Organization by addressing a number of important issues for the citizens of Belarus and the international community. In addition, the Chairman of the House of Representatives informed about a decision to establish at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus the Youth Council (Parliament).

Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki noted that the implementation of the UN-Belarus Cooperation Programmes goes effectively. The UN Resident Coordinator expressed readiness to provide expert assistance in establishing parliamentary procedures aimed to integrate the SDG into the legislative process.

The parties discussed issues concerning preparation of the UN-Belarus Cooperation Programme for 2021-2025.

The meeting was attended by Andrei Savinykh, Chairperson of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Lyudmila Makarina-Kibak, Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
